Athletic Training Services
A certified athletic trainer will provide medical coverage for a scheduled event or game. This service includes pre-game injury reduction applications, injury decision and action, emergency care, referral, and post-game care.
Concussion Rehabilitation & Management
Our Pivot Sports Medicine team understands every concussion is significant, unique and potentially complex. The mechanism of injury that causes a concussion can damage multiple areas of the body, as well as the brain, including the cervical spine, the inner ear and the eye. Associated damage to multiple areas can cause overlapping signs and symptoms that if not accurately diagnosed and treated, may delay recovery.
Every patient is carefully evaluated, screened, treated and monitored until they are fully recovered. An individualized rehabilitation program is designed and implemented by our concussion specialists to meet the specific needs identified in the evaluation and diagnosis. Each program has safe, structured progressions. We communicate directly with physicians and other healthcare providers in a continuum of care model to ensure that appropriate care and rehabilitation is provided for an athletes’ safe return to play.
Care & Prevention For Coaches
Pivot Sports Medicine is proud to offer Care & Prevention for Coaches as well as our NEW Care & Prevention Renewal course. The full program is a 15-hour course that meets the standard requirement for Maryland Public Secondary School Athletic Association (MPSSAA) coaches with the renewal course meeting the standard for the 5-year renewal period. Throughout the course, coaches will learn about the sports medicine team, legal issues, basic anatomy, injury management, taping techniques, and first aid. This program can be combined with our CPR & AED certification for a complete training program. Pivot’s “Care and Prevention for Coaches” course is open to all participating schools and partnerships and can often be arranged for those outside of our network.
Back to Sports Program: Educates parents and guardians about youth wellness and basic sports safety to help keep kids safe, healthy and having fun while playing the sports they love. Topics include: concussion awareness, heat and hydration, prevention of pediatric overuse injuries and more.
Care and Prevention Course: Educates coaches about legal issues, injury prevention, sports injuries, life-threatening situations, sport first-aid and emergency care, concussion awareness, strength and conditioning, and nutrition.
Advocates for Injured Athletes Course: Student-athlete leadership program educating athletes on how to recognize and report serious life-threatening situations to their athletic staff. CPR and AED training are also included. This nationally recognized program has made a significant impact in helping to save the lives of athletes.
Our team is happy to present, hold open discussions, or develop workshops on various topics including but not limited to concussion, injury prevention, and return to play. We can create an educational presentation to meet the needs of the teams we serve.
This interactive program is comprised of a panel of experts in concussion care and sports medicine. They will meet with your group in an open forum format to facilitate discussions around concussion care, injury reduction strategies, common sport injuries, and nutrition. Parents and coaches should bring their questions for our experts.
Members may schedule an injury screen with one of our physical therapists at any Pivot Physical Therapy location. Fast-track physical therapy can be scheduled if needed.
Functional Movement Screenings
If you are struggling to figure out what is holding you back from performing your best, our Functional Movement Screen (FMS) combines clinical expertise and experience with the Functional Movement System program. The FMS is a ranking and grading system that documents movement patterns that are key to normal function. By screening these patterns, the FMS readily identifies functional limitations and asymmetries. These issues can reduce the effects of functional training, physical conditioning, and distort body awareness.
The FMS is a tool that rates injury risk, identifies problems in the fundamentals of movement, and provides a baseline to get you on the right track. The tool consists of seven movement patterns that are common dynamic movement patterns (squat, high step, lunge) to assess mobility, strength and flexibility of both the upper and lower body as well as the trunk and core. The power of the FMS allows for quick screening of relative symmetry of your body through functional movement patterns. Our Physical Therapists perform free injury evaluations every day. We quickly get to the source of your pain and make recommendations so you can feel better faster.
ProEdge Training Camp
The Pivot ProEdge Camp is a unique 10-week medically supported training program. The goal is to improve performance while reducing the risk of injuries. Our staff will provide individual movement analysis to identify imbalances and subsequent risks and implement corrective strategies and exercises to solve these issues. Sport-specific flexibility, speed, strength, power, agility and core training incorporated to reinforce proper movement to achieve those desired results.
