PT DPT AIB-VR
Melissa currently practices as a staff therapist for Pivot’s Richmond, VA (John Rolfe) clinic. She began as a PT technician with Tidewater Physical Therapy in Gloucester, VA in 2010. After gaining this experience, she earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
She is certified in vestibular rehabilitation to treat patients with dizziness and balance disorders and received training for treatment of Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) from the American Institute of Balance in 2017.
Melissa enjoys treating a wide variety of diagnoses and has a special interest in working with older adults to optimize their ability to perform their daily activities with ease, prevent falls, and maintain independence.
“It is always so rewarding to see a person become more independent. The best moments are when a patient tells me that they are no longer afraid to go for walks outside because they feel steadier on their feet, or that they were able to go on an outing with their grandkids for the first time in months.”
She values the one on one time she gets to spend with each patient. It allows her to get to know their individual needs and work with the patient to establish a plan of care that best fits their personal goals and lifestyle.
In her spare time, Melissa enjoys visiting the museums, parks, and festivals of her new home in the city of Richmond, as well as kayaking, camping, and cooking.
