Thousands of people across the United States will start a new routine of exercising at least 30 minutes per day as the American Heart Association celebrates National Walking Day.
But today is just the first day as we kick off a month-long celebration designed to help us all become more active.
By going for a walk on National Walking Day and posting the minutes on social media, using the hashtag #AHALaceUp, you can help the association to reach a national goal of 100,000 minutes walked.
The AHA recommends around 150 minutes of physical activity per week to reduce adults’ risk of heart disease.
In addition, half of all adults and more than 60% of children do not get daily vigorous physical activity and one in three American kids is overweight or obese.
