Joan James, ATC 

Certified Athletic Trainer

Joan re-joined the Pivot Physical Therapy team in 2016 after taking a short hiatus to complete her Master’s Degree.  She is the athletic trainer at Oakdale High School in Ijamsville, MD and works in the Urbana Physical Therapy Clinic.  Joan has many years of experience working in both the high school and collegiate setting. 

Joan is a 2009 graduate of Limestone College in Gaffney, SC with a BS in Athletic Training and minors in both biology and coaching.  She was a member of the women’s lacrosse team where she was voted Academic All Conference in 2007-2009.  Joan worked for FCPS and Pivot Physical Therapy for 3 years as an ATC before furthering her education at George Mason University.  In 2015 she graduated from GMU with an MS in Exercise, Fitness & Health Promotion and was recently published in Sports Health for her research done on Division I soccer players and landing mechanics.  While at Mason Joan worked with the 2013 A10 Championship men’s soccer team and the 2014, 2015 A10 Championship men’s & women’s indoor & outdoor men’s and women’s track and field teams.  

Joan is also an assistant lacrosse coach for the Frederick Community College Lady Cougar’s lacrosse team.
