Lauren Sylvain, PT, DPT 

Physical Therapist
 

Lauren received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Husson University in 2013. She began her career in acute care, working at a level 1 trauma center for 3 years. She worked primarily in the surgical ICU and orthopedic units. Prior to joining Pivot Physical Therapy in January 2018, Lauren worked as a travel PT in various settings in multiple states along the East Coast.

In her free time, Lauren likes to explore the new area (she’s a transplant from Maine) and meet new people. She also loves to be outside, spend time with family/friends, and travel as often as possible. 

 

Sara Ruhlman, PT, CLT 

Clinic Director, Physical Therapist
 

Sara Ruhlman, PT, CLT joined Pivot Physical Therapy as the Clinic Director of the Roanoke-Towers clinic in December 2017. Sara earned her Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy from Russell Sage College in 1994, and obtained her certification in lymphedema management from the Coast-to-Coast School of Lymphedema Management (LeDuc Method) in 1999. She has experience in a variety of settings including outpatient orthopedics, sports medicine, lymphedema management, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, neurologic rehabilitation, aquatic therapy, and home health. She enjoys working with all patient populations, and is especially passionate about orthopedic and cancer rehabilitation. Sara is currently completing her post-professional Doctorate in Physical Therapy.

Sara is grateful for the opportunity to serve in her community, as the current President of the Foundation for Rehab Equipment and Endowment (FREE Foundation). She has also volunteered as a guest lecturer at the Jefferson College of Health Sciences and was a course author for the Home Health section of the APTA’s “Advanced Competency in Home Health” certification program (Ethical Considerations for Physical Therapists Practicing in the Home Health Setting).

In her free time, Sara enjoys spending time with her family, including her husband, Scott, children Matthew, Zach and Emma, and their beloved golden retriever, Maddie. She loves being outdoors, hiking and bicycling in the Blue Ridge Mountains and attending her children’s soccer events. 

 
Sarah Wannlund

Sarah Wannlund, PT, DPT 

Physical Therapist
 

Sarah Wannlund is a staff physical therapist at the Abingdon clinic. She began working for Pivot in August 2017. Sarah has experience working with a variety of patients ranging from athletes looking to return to their sport after an injury, to geriatric patients looking to improve their function at home and in the community.

Sarah is a member of the Maryland American Physical Therapy Association and remains up to date with the latest research in the physical therapy world. Sarah looks to grow her manual therapy skills by getting certified in Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization.

Sarah attended Lebanon Valley College in Pennsylvania for both her undergraduate degree in Health Sciences (2014) as well as for her Doctorate of Physical Therapy (2017). While working towards her Doctorate, Sarah was a part of the college’s free physical therapy clinic, which served the underinsured population of Lebanon, PA. During her 4 years of undergraduate schooling, Sarah played Division III soccer. Her passion for athletics led her to travel to Arizona for a sports medicine clinical affiliation where she gained valuable experience treating high- level athletes.

In her free time, Sarah likes to play soccer, travel, take hikes, and snowboard. Sarah’s active lifestyle and desire to help people are traits she is excited to bring to the patients of Abingdon’s Pivot clinic.

 
Sonya Bautista

Sonya Bautista, PT, MSPT,  

Physical Therapist
 

Sonya holds a bachelor degree in Anatomy and Physiology as well as her Masters of Science in Physical Therapy from Andrews University, Berrien Springs, MI. The majority of her practice, over the past two decades, has been devoted to the treatment of musculoskeletal dysfunctions, biomechanical injuries, and postoperative rehabilitation following orthopedic surgery. 

In addition to her extensive experience in orthopedics, Sonya has specialized training in therapeutic taping techniques, instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization, and is certified in dry needling. She has special interest in treating disorders associated with gymnastics and tennis, sports that Sonya is trained and knowledgeable about. Furthermore, Sonya has done extensive study in the field of scoliosis and was a presenter at the Pediatric Symposium in 2017. 

Sonya strives to provide quality specialized care with a hands on philosophy and a caring heart. Sonya’s treatment style has evolved from a blend of manual therapy training, yoga and pilates instruction, and dynamic movement screening. Her goal is to identify the most effective treatment to get her patients back to their ideal performance. Sonya is regarded as an excellent and innovative therapist who uses the latest evidence based treatment approaches to meet the goals of her patients.  

Sonya enjoys time with her husband and three daughters. During the summer months, she can be found boating, wakeboarding, and playing tennis. In the colder weather, Sonya enjoys snowboarding, reading, and refinishing furniture.

 
Melissa Pollock

Melissa Pollock, PT, DPT, AIB-VR 

Physical Therapist
 

Melissa Pollock began in physical therapy as a PT technician with Tidewater Physical Therapy in Gloucester, VA in 2010.  After gaining this experience, she earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, c/o 2016.

Currently practicing physical therapy as a staff therapist for the John Rolfe clinic in Richmond, VA.

She is certified in vestibular rehabilitation to treat patients with dizziness and balance disorders  and received training for treatment of Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) from the American Institute of Balance in 2017.

Enjoys treating a wide variety of diagnoses with a special interest in working with older adults to optimize their ability to perform activities of daily living with ease, prevent falls, and maintain independence.

“It is always so rewarding to see a person become more independent. The best moments are when a patient tells me that they are no longer afraid to go for walks outside because they feel steadier on their feet, or that they were able to go on an outing with family members for the first time in months.”

Melissa enjoys the one on one time she gets to spend with a patient. It allows her to get to know their individual needs and work with the patient to establish a plan of care that best fits their personal goals and lifestyle.

Melissa enjoys exploring the museums, parks, and festivals of her new home in the city of Richmond, kayaking, camping, and cooking.

 
Charlie Sevier

Charlie Sevier, PT, DPT

Charlie received his Bachelor of Science degree in exercise science from Appalachian State University followed by his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Wingate University. Charlie is currently an orthopedic resident in the NxtGen Institute of Physical Therapy’s orthopedic program.  Charlie has a manual therapy focus having trained under multiple manual therapy fellows during his clinical internships. Since beginning practice, Charlie has gained certification in trigger point dry needling, further adding to his manual therapy approach to treatment.

Outside of the clinic, Charlie enjoys exercising, traveling and spending time with his family, friends, and fiancée. 

 
Brian Gast

Dr. Brian Gast has been a licensed Physical Therapist since 2017. His undergraduate education began at Chesapeake College and Anne Arundel Community College before transferring to the University of Maryland, College Park where he earned his Bachelors Degree in Kinesiology. Dr. Gast practiced as a Certified Personal trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine and assisted in the instruction of Anatomy and Physiology as an in class tutor at Chesapeake College prior to his post-graduate education.

Dr. Gast earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in 2017 where he had a special focus on real time ultrasound imaging of the hip and piriformis. Dr. Gast has also done extensive research in the prevention and treatment of obesity, as well as cognitive behavioral therapy for chronic pain. Dr. Gast has acquired a special interest in orthopedic, and neurological dysfunction in adults and adolescents. He has had extensive experience treating pain in the low back, hip, knee, shoulder, foot, ankle, neck, and spine. Dr. Gast also has a special interest in neuromuscular dysfunction that includes poor balance, stroke, and peripheral nerve dysfunction. Finally, he has a special interest in sports medicine, injury prevention, and enhancing athletic performance.

Dr. Gast utilizes treatment strategies that include manual therapy, soft tissue massage, and mobilization techniques in combination with therapeutic exercise and dynamic functional movement to return patients to their desired functional outcomes, and maximize athletic and functional performance.

 Dr. Gast is an avid D.C. sports fan. He enjoys hiking, water sports, cooking delicious food, and coffee.

 
Binh Nguyen

Binh Nguyen, PT, DPT

Binh Nguyen joined Pivot Physical Therapy at the Laurel location in January 2018. He works as a physical therapist who strives to provide optimal patient care using evidence-based treatment. Prior to joining Pivot, Binh had experience providing therapy services at multiple sites in Maryland including Holy Cross Hospital, MedStar NRH, and private practices. His main interests are orthopedics and manual therapy, and he is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).

Binh graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2014. He then earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in 2017. During his time in school, Binh worked as a graduate teaching assistant to help facilitate learning for incoming physical therapy students. Additionally, he served as a member of the project committee and as a core ambassador for the APTA Student Assembly in 2016. In the subsequent year, he was elected as the student delegate for the APTA of Maryland to facilitate involvement for physical therapy and physical therapist assistant students. For his dedicated service, he received a Certificate of Appreciation and Rising Star Student Leadership Award from the APTA and APTA of Maryland respectively.

Outside of work, Binh enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, exercising, and learning to become a better person.
 

Todd W. Kramer,

Todd Kramer is responsible for operations and growth of the Pennsylvania market of Pivot Physical Therapy.  Todd brings to Pivot over 20 years of experience in the industry achieving positive results.

Prior to joining Pivot in March 2017, Todd received CPA certification at KPMG in Pittsburgh, PA, excelled as a key member of the senior management teams of Joyner Sportsmedicine Institute, NovaCare Outpatient Rehab, Select Medical Corporation, Drayer Physical Therapy Institute, and ProCare Physical Therapy. 

While at NovaCare/Select, Todd served as the Director of Operations for over 175 physical therapy facilities and 6 occupational medicine facilities which generated over $150M in revenue.  Todd served in roles at Drayer as the Controller and Director of Business Office Operations.  At ProCare, Todd joined the company as a consultant in 2006, served as the Chief Financial Officer and became an owner in 2014.

Todd graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.  Todd lives in the Harrisburg, PA area with his wife Jeri and their three daughters.

 
Jeffrey Myers

Jeffrey Myers is the Vice President of Sales for Pivot Physical Therapy. Jeff oversees a team of Physician and Community Liaisons through out the states of Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Delaware. Jeffrey has initiated and maintained over 750 physician relationships and 250 attorney relationships in his 21 years in the physical therapy business. Previously Jeffrey was Vice President of Marketing for Dynamic Physical Therapy.  

Jeffrey's other recent achievements are co-founder to both the Delaware Sports League and Professional Society of Delaware.  He currently serves as a board member to the Delaware Arthritis Foundation (former President), Blue Gold Basketball benefiting Best Buddies of Delaware, Kutz Home Nursing and Assisted Living, and Kid’s Chance of Delaware (Treasurer). He was formerly a board member of Jewish Federation of Delaware and Cancer Care Connection. 

Jeffrey was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh’s Dual Business School and Walt Disney World’s Crossroads Management Program.

 

Amy Whatley, PT, DPT

Amy joined Pivot Physical Therapy in November of 2017 after completing a traineeship at an outpatient clinic in Richmond, VA. Amy enjoys working with a variety of patients and is especially interested in treating the spine, sports injuries, and women’s health issues.

Amy Whatley is originally from Florence, MS and received her Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences from Southern Adventist University in Collegedale, TN. After completing her undergraduate degree, she attended Andrews University in southwest Michigan, where she received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2017. While in school, she worked in many clinical settings such as, sports medicine, inpatient rehab, neuro ICU, and outpatient orthopedics.

Amy’s outside interests include hiking, kayaking, watching football, traveling, and spending time with her family, her husband Richie, and their dog Waylon. 

 
Zach Spencer

Zach Spencer, MS, LAT, ATC, PES 

Certified Athletic Trainer
 

Zach Spencer  joined Pivot in December 2017. He works as the athletic trainer at Hancock high school in Washington County, MD and works in the Hagerstown physical therapy clinic. Zach is certified as a performance enhancement specialist and is an impact applications athletic trainer. 


Zach went to Alfred University and earned his bachelors of science in athletic training. He also attended California University of Pennsylvania and earned a Masters of science in performance enhancement and injury prevention. Over the past four years Zach has been working in Atlanta as an Athletic Trainer of one of the greater Atlanta area high schools, and prior to that assisting with minor-league hockey teams.

 
Julie Trinchere

Julie joined Pivot Physical Therapy in July of 2017. She completed her training at the University of Maryland Baltimore School of Medicine, earning her Doctorate of Physical Therapy. She enjoys working with a variety of patients of all ages. Her primary interests in outpatient therapy are post-op rehabilitation, vestibular and balance therapy, orthopedic conditions, sports injury, and geriatrics. Julie is continuously working to further her skill-set to treat patients with up-to-date, quality care. She strongly believes in a hands-on approach and individualized treatment plans.

She acquired her Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology from the University of Maryland, College Park, and remains a proud Terps fan. Outside of the clinic, Julie enjoys hiking, watching basketball and football, running, and cooking.

 
Anish Reddy

Anish is part of our clinic in Smithfield, NC, formerly Advanced Physical Therapy. Before joining Pivot Physical Therapy through Advanced PT, Anish has practiced outpatient orthopedics at a privately owned clinic in Edison, NJ as a staff physical therapist as well as clinic director.  Anish has a passion for manual physical therapy skills and uses a multitude of techniques in his practice that has promised improved symptoms after a patient's first visit. He is currently on track to becoming a Certified Mulligan's Practitioner. Anish is also an avid sports enthusiast and used his passion for sports to study and improve his patient's ability to move without pain. 

Over the past several years he has given lectures to numerous groups on topics such as fall prevention in the elderly along with lower back pain workshops. Anish is excited to be practicing in Johnston County and looks forward to assisting his new neighbors reach their optimal health and wellness.

Anish graduated from the University of Sciences in Philadelphia, with a B.S. in Health Science in 2012 and then went on to receive a Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree from The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, in 2015. 

 
Nicole Yearwood

Nicole is originally from Charlotte, NC. Nicole earned her Bachelor of Rehabilitation Science degree from Northeastern University and continued there to earn her Doctorate of Physical Therapy.

She enjoys treating symptoms of postural dysfunction and sports related injuries in patients of all ages. In her free time she enjoys hiking and playing recreational soccer.


 

 
Emily Lusnia

Emily Lusnia, PT, DPT

Emily Lusnia earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Saint Augustine in Saint Augustine, FL  in 2012, with a heavy concentration in manual therapy. She earned her B.S. in Kinesiology at Campbell University in 2009. Emily is a registered yoga teacher with the yoga alliance (RYT200) and certified in FMS screening/testing.  She is certified in Functional Dry Needling from Kineticore, and enjoys treating in the outpatient orthopaedic setting.  She treats patients of all ages, but in her most recent years she has focused on heavy concentration of  athletes including but not limited to soccer, football, baseball, tennis, wrestling, cyclists, runners, and yoga teachers.  She also enjoys treating the weekend warrior, the daily stress of the desk jobs, and restoring functional mobility in the aging population.  She looks forward to serving the community and expanding her knowledge and skills with the team at Pivot Physical Therapy.  In her spare time she enjoys yoga, paddle boarding, outdoor recreation, running, cooking, and exploring areas of natural health. She resides in Raleigh with her Husband, Kraig, and 2 dogs, Zeke and Jake.

 
Jon Paryz

Jon Paryz, PT

Jon Paryz comes to Pivot Physical Therapy with over 24 years specializing in sports medicine and general orthopedics. Jon received his Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy degree from Daemen College in Amherst, NY in 1993 and became NSCA Certified as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist in 2002. He focuses his treatment of the body as a whole and on re-educating proper movement patterns. He believes a proper and thorough evaluation to identify the source of the patient's dysfunction and symptoms is the key to long-term relief and assists in prevention of re-injury. Utilizing PRI (Postural Restoration) concepts, functional manual therapy as well as thorough patient education he is able to help achieve his patients' goals and speed the rehab process. Jon has studied multiple approaches to physical therapy with continuing education courses specializing in movement pattern re-training through PRI,  manual techniques from Maitland and Institute of Physical Art (IPA) as well as functional movement approaches from Gary Gray PT, Vern Gambetta and others.

Jon began his career in Florida where his love of sports medicine intensified working with professional, collegiate and HS athletes. Jon worked with touring tennis professionals and top-ranked juniors from both the Saddlebrook and Palmer Academies. He has taught national seminars to other physical therapists on how to evaluate and treat the tennis athlete and the biomechanics of tennis. He has a special interest in working with tennis players, runners and triathletes. Relocating to the Triangle in 1997, Jon continued to work with local tennis clubs and served as the PT for Serving Up Aces: Sampras vs. McEnroe in 2007. In addition to working with top-ranked ATP and WTA professionals, he has worked with athletes from all sports, including the NCAA, NHL, MLB, NFL, Arena Football, LPGA, US and Foreign Olympic teams and serving as one of the physical therapy providers for the Carolina Ballet for 5 years. He has also given lectures on running biomechanics, injury prevention and plyometric training. Jon is skilled in evaluation and fitting of temporary shoe postings, permanent orthotics and proper footwear to normalize lower extremity biomechanics. He is proficient in utilizing video analysis and functional exercise to aid in athletes’ rehabilitation and performance enhancement. Jon is originally from the Buffalo, NY area but he and his wife Debbie have fallen in love with North Carolina where they stay active and raise their 2 boys – Tyler and Josh and dog, Jax. When not coaching the boys’ sports teams, Jon enjoys cycling, tennis and roller hockey and competing in triathlons including completing Ironman Lake Placid in 2012.

 
Erin Wyant

Erin Wyant joined the Pivot Physical Therapy team in the summer of 2017 in  Raleigh, NC. She has experience in outpatient orthopedics as well as acute care. She plans to pursue continuing education in orthopedics in order to provide the best care to her patients. She enjoys creating personalized treatment plans for her patients in order to attain patient goals.

In 2014, Erin graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Kinesiology from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. She earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2017 from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.

When she is not in the clinic, Erin enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and two dogs, traveling, hiking, and exercising.

 
Jordan Mortensen

Jordan Mortensen, PT, DPT

Jordan Mortensen, PT, DPT began working with Pivot PT in August 2017 at the Clayton, NC office. She is certified in the Graston Technique and Pediatric Vestibular Rehabilitation.  She is also a Level 1 TPI Certified Professional for golfers through the Titleist Performance Institute. Jordan will soon be completing her certification in the Functional Movement Screen (FMS 1) as well as participating in the Post-Concussion Program with Pivot PT. She is working towards becoming a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), obtaining a certification in dry needling and becoming a board certified Orthopedic Specialist through the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). She has been a member of the APTA since 2011, with a current focus in the orthopedic and sports sections. Jordan worked in pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital of UPMC in Pittsburgh, PA and then in orthopedics at the UPMC Rooney Sports Medicine Center in Pittsburgh, PA.

Jordan completed the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at the highly ranked University of Pittsburgh, graduating in 2014. She attended the College of Charleston for her undergraduate degree, majoring in Biology and minoring in Psychology.

When Jordan is not at work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and 2 young daughters. They have fun exploring their new town of Clayton and the surrounding areas and she can’t wait to learn all about the local golf courses! On Sundays, Jordan loves cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers!

 
Chris Lester

Chris Lester, PT, DPT

Chris Lester is a licensed physical therapist who joined Pivot Physical Therapy in 2017 in Frederick, MD. He received his Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of Saint Augustine in August 2017. During his education, Chris completed the Manual Therapy Certified courses and plans to become certified in the near future. Chris will be participating in Pivots 1-year Orthopedic Clinical Specialist Residency and plans to become certified in early 2019. Chris earned his Bachelors of Science in Exercise Science from Towson University in 2014 and has a passion in fitness, nutrition, and athletic performance. 

In his free time, Chris enjoys time spent with his wife and daughter, hiking, playing with his dogs, and trying new foods.

 

Russell Edwards, CSCS 

Athletic Trainer
 

For Russell Edwards, achieving one's goal is a marathon not a sprint. Consistency and patience yield the most optimal results, which is exactly how he relates to his clients.

"I love exercise, reaching goals and educating, so why not pursue the one profession where I can do all  three," he says of his decision to become a performance coach.

Russell's energy and dedication transcend his own athletic passions, carrying over to his professional philosophy and interactions.  He knows reaching a goal can be tough, however, admitting, "If it was easy, everybody would be doing it."  This is particularly evident in his specialty areas of weight loss, sport-specific training, power lifting, Strong Man and Highlander Games training.

Originally from Pittsburgh, PA, Russell graduated from Metro State College of Denver in 2008.  He played baseball and soccer in high school, rugby in college and today he burns fuel snowboarding, lifting weights and going to concerts.  His favorite clients?  "Anyone who wants to succeed, anyone who wants to reach their goals, anyone who wants to put in the effort."

 
Daanish Memon

Daanish Memon, PT, DPT

Daanish joined Pivot Physical Therapy in 2017. He is a licensed Physical Therapist at our Germantown, MD location where he provides rehabilitative services and treats a variety of orthopedic diagnoses. Daanish is currently enrolled in Pivot's Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) Residency Program in order to further his understanding of the body and strive for excellent patient care. 

Daanish graduated from Marymount University in Arlington, VA where he received his Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree in 2017. While in school, Daanish gained experience working with orthopedic, neurologic, geriatric and pediatric populations. He also completed a service trip to Costa Rica in which he provided rehabilitative services to children in an orphanage, suffering from severe neurologic conditions. 

In his free time, Daanish enjoys working out, trying new foods, cheering on the Redskins, and spending time with family and friends.

 

Lidija Prather, CSCS

The best reward from being a performance coach comes from the relationships we develop with our clients. Lidija lives by the famous words of Confucius “do what you love and you’ll never work a day.”


Lidija graduated from Old Dominion University with a degree in Exercise Science. During her last semester, she completed an internship in strength and conditioning at Christopher Newport University. This internship gave her an opportunity to work with athletes from 22 different sports. She truly got a taste of what being a performance coach is like and fell in love with this type of work. Educating and helping young athletes achieve their goals was the best hands on experience one can get. Upon graduation, she became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach through NSCA.


Lidija, along with her husband and two children, resides in a quiet little town in Isle of Wight County. In her free time she enjoys snowboarding, mountain biking, and hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Growing up in Eastern Europe, Lidija was active in gymnastics but gave it up upon moving to the United States. These days, she can be found playing a fun game of tennis with her family or cheering on her older daughter during her softball and volleyball games. 

 

Joyce Worthey , PTA

Joyce Worthey is a Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant that joined the Pivot family in November 2016 at the Suffolk, Virginia clinic.  Joyce was recently certified in Functional Screening for Optimal Aging.  She previously worked as a designer, and enjoyed creating functional and beautiful spaces for her clients. After years of helping people improve their exterior lives, she fell in love with the idea of helping them from the inside out.

Joyce completed her Associates in Applied Sciences from South University in Virginia Beach. She currently serves on their PTA Program Advisory Committee.  She is especially interested in working with balance disorders, general post-operative rehabilitation and Aquatic Therapy. Outside the clinic, Joyce is a foodie who enjoys crazy long walks, road trips without a destination, hot yoga and warm tennis. Joyce will go out of her way for good pizza, chocolate or a live band. She is proud to have a son who practices kindness and appreciates good music.

 

Carl Bruno, PT

Carl Bruno, PT joined Pivot Physical Therapy in June 2017 and works at the Suffolk, Virginia office.  He has over 30 years’ experience treating a variety of orthopedic physical therapy conditions. Carl is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, the Virginia Physical Therapy Association and the Orthopedic Section of the APTA.  He has worked as a physical therapist in the US Air Force and a variety of private practices in Philadelphia, Northern Virginia and for over 11 years owned his own practice in Fredericksburg, VA.

Carl earned his degree in physical therapy from Temple University, School of Allied Health Professions. Since then he has taken multiple continuing education courses in a variety of disciplines.

Carl recently moved to the Tidewater Area of Virginia to be closer to family.  He likes to spend much of his time out of doors, visiting family and friends and when he finds time, to do some hunting.

 
Cory Lail

Cory Lail is a physical therapist at the Salisbury, NC location where he joined the Pivot community in November 2017. Specific interests include orthopedics, spinal and extremity manual therapy techniques, dry needling, and sport-specific training. Cory’s main interest lies in the challenges of chronic pain and the psychosocial dynamics that play a role in a person's ability to fully recover. He prides himself on getting to know each of his patient’s individually to form a strong relationship in order to achieve the patient’s full potential.

Cory is originally from southern Virginia and received his Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Virginia Commonwealth University located in Richmond, VA. To continue his education and pursuit of becoming a physical therapist, Cory enrolled in Radford University’s Doctorate of Physical Therapy program where he graduated in May of 2017.

When he’s not in the clinic, Cory enjoys social outings with his wife Rebecca, Crossfit workouts, playing basketball, and cheering on Virginia Tech sports.

Laura Allen Weavil, PT, DPT is the Clinic Director of Pivot Physical Therapy of Greensboro, triad location.  Laura is originally from High Point and received her doctorate in physical therapy from Elon University in 2009. 

Laura has practiced in the outpatient setting since 2009, with experience with treating a variety of diagnoses, although the majority of her experience has been with treating orthopedic conditions.  

Laura has received training in Maitland, McKenzie physical therapy techniques, has received her certification to perform dry needling and has training with IASTM techniques.  She is also an APTA certified clinical instructor and has served as a CI to several PT/PTA students in the area. 

 
Ashley Beck

Ashley Beck joined Pivot Health Solutions in February of 2016. Ashley has held several roles of increasing responsibility throughout the company.  Ashley is currently responsible for the integration of new clinics, strategic planning around continued growth and partnering with Regional and Corporate leadership on day-to-day operations helping to maximize the return on investment for the company. Ashley has a commitment to the continuity and success of the company while going through rapid growth. 

 Prior to joining Pivot Health Solutions, Ashley spent 5+ years with a variety of Fortune 1000 companies including Comcast, Office Depot and most recently Mednax Health Solutions, a provider of outsourced physician services, revenue cycle management, patient engagement and performance improvement consulting. Throughout her career, Ashley has had a strong focus within Finance, Operations and Acquisition integration. 

Ashley earned her BA in Finance from University of Central Florida. She has been involved in various charitable organizations throughout her career with a strong commitment to United Way. Currently, Ashley volunteers with United Way of Central Maryland and is an active member of United Way's Tocqueville Society.

 
Mark Smith

Mark is the Clinical Director of Pivot Physical Therapy in Hummelstown, PA. Mark joined Pivot in November of 2017.  Mark brings a unique blend of passion for helping people. His experience has allowed him to help a diverse patient population including the treatment of all orthopedic injuries and surgeries to the person suffering with Vestibular dysfunction. He is Graston trained in IASTM, enjoys working with postsurgical conditions, balance disorders, return to work and return to sport. Having very strong sports medicine and orthopedic clinical knowledge allows him to provide superior functional outcomes with his patients. Mark previously worked in Binghamton, NY for 2 years and York, PA for the past 11 years.

Mark is a native of New Oxford, PA.  Mark graduated from Lock Haven University in 1999 with a bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training.  He then graduated from Slippery Rock University in 2002 with a doctoral degree in physical therapy.  While attending graduate school at SRU, Mark was employed as the Head Athletic Trainer at Moniteau High School.  

Mark enjoys spending time with his wife and 2 daughters. His daughters are involved in gymnastics and field hockey. He likes outdoor activities, exercising and running in his spare time.

Stephanie Smigiera is a physical therapist at the Salisbury, NC location. Prior to joining Pivot, Stephanie gained experience working in the acute care, general orthopedics, and sports medicine settings during her clinical internships. Stephanie most enjoys working with general orthopedic and sports medicine cases. She has much experience working with return to sport and work individuals both post surgically and non-surgically. Stephanie’s main interests include sports medicine and orthopedics, manual therapy and sport/work specific rehab programs. She is also an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association.

Stephanie was born and raised in Buffalo, NY. She pursued her education in Pennsylvania, receiving her Bachelors in Health and Physical Education with a concentration in Human Performance from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania in May of 2013 and her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania in May of 2017. Stephanie was a student-athlete on the Women’s track and Field team at Edinboro where she was recognized as an NCAA Division II Academic All-American.

In her spare time, Stephanie enjoys outdoor activities, Crossfit and weight lifting.

Robert Pounders is the Senior Director of Human Resources for Pivot Health Solutions. Rob has been with Pivot since January 2017, and provides strategic direction to the Human Resources and Leadership teams. He has more than 17 years of experience in Human Resources. Prior to joining Pivot he was the Director of Human Resources for Royal Farms. Rob serves as an active member in the Air National Guard.

Rob holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Baltimore and a master’s degree in business administration from Loyola University Maryland.  

 

Kayla Owata, PT, DPT, LSVT-BIG

Before joining Pivot Physical Therapy in October of 2017, Kayla worked in an outpatient clinic in Martinsville, VA. She enjoys working with all types of patients. They give her variety in her day and she likes to work with different diagnoses from orthopedic to neurological. Kayla has completed training in the LSVT-BIG program to continue her education and help patients suffering with Parkinson's Disease.

Kayla earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Human Nutrition, Food and Exercise from Virginia Tech in 2013. She went on to receive her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Radford University in 2016. During her time in school, Kayla worked in multiple settings including outpatient orthopedics, aquatic therapy, pediatrics and sports medicine.

In her free time, Kayla likes to travel, cheer for the Virginia Tech Hokies, spend time with her family, friends, and dog Atticus. Kayla also stays connected to her community as a member of the Junior League of the Roanoke Valley.

 
Jill Reamer, JD

Jill Reamer is responsible for managing the day to day legal affairs where she guides the Company with regard to corporate contracting, leases and mergers and acquisitions as well as regulatory affairs. Ms. Reamer has over 25 years of managing business transactions and legal affairs in the role as both a retained professional advising corporations on deal structure, negotiation strategy and due diligence analysis, as well as being General Counsel for a large regional healthcare company. Her experience includes representing the legal interest for both  Payor Corporations as well as a Large Regional Health Care Provider.

In addition Ms. Reamer has spent over 10 years advising companies in all industries with regard to merger and acquisition strategies and processes. Ms. Reamer has received her BA in business from the A.B. Freeman School of Business at Tulane University and earned her JD degree at The University of Maryland, School of Law. Jill has held board positions for National Association of Women Business Owners Baltimore Regional Chapter as well as Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Maryland.

Janice Rahm is Chief Marketing Officer of Pivot Health Solutions, having served as CMO during the company’s exponential growth as Pivot Physical Therapy.

Janice brings extensive experience as a proven innovator in product development and marketing for healthcare services companies. Prior to joining Pivot, Janice served as CMO at Interactive Health, which provides leading businesses with innovative wellness programs designed to increase overall company health and actively engage employees to make lasting behavior changes.

Janice previously served as President of HealthMine, a private equity backed company that provides value-based benefit plans, administrative services and supporting technologies to employers, insurers, and third party administrators.

Previously at Prodigy Health Group, Janice’s creative product designs allowed the company to establish early leadership in the then nascent health and wellness arena. Earlier, Janice was co-founder and Senior Vice President, Operations & Systems Development at Definity Health, which was a pioneer in consumer directed health plans and successfully sold to United Healthcare in 2004. Janice also was a founding partner of a consultancy specializing in Consumer-Directed health care, and more broadly, the emerging role of consumers in health care.

Janice holds a BA degree in Marketing/Communication from Augsburg College, Minnesota and is a member of the International Association of Business Leaders.

 

Kyle Pankau, PTA, BS, CSCS, CCI

Kyle is a Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) at the First Colonial Clinic in Virginia Beach. He moved to Virginia Beach in 2009 immediately following graduation from Field Artillery Officer Basic Course and was attached to Virginia Army National Guard’s Field Artillery Battalion based out of Norfolk, VA.

After almost 10 years of service and one combat tour to Iraq, he has recently been Honorably Discharged from the Army with the rank of Captain. He is now focusing on his new career and civilian life. Kyle earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science from Longwood University in 2008 and has been actively involved in exercise prescription and instruction as either a personal trainer or group exercise instructor since 2005. He achieved a Certification as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association and a TRX (Total Body Resistance Exercise) Certification in 2013.

Kyle is a recent graduate of Tidewater Community College where he earned an Associate’s of Applied Science Degree and a license in Physical Therapist Assisting in May of 2017. He started working for the company in 2011 as a Physical Therapy Technician for 4 years before attending PTA school and is excited to be able return as a licensed clinician. Kyle highly values the educational learning process and is a Credentialed Clinical Instructor. He is eager to take on students completing their clinical rotations to be able to give back to the education community. Kyle has inspirations in furthering his own education to specialize in prosthetics and to become an Orthopedic Physical Therapist Assistant.

Ben Ellenberger is a Staff Physical Therapist and Certified Athletic Trainer at the Cary Piedmont Clinic.  In March 2017 he moved to the Triangle area from Charlottesville, Virginia, and specializes in Sports and Industrial Rehabilitation.  Ben has several continuing education classes focusing on functional capacity exams, dry needling and manual therapy.
 
Ben graduated from Northern Michigan University in 2012 as an Athletic Trainer where he worked with the men's football team and various Olympic Athletes training on campus.  Ben received his Doctor of Physical Therapy from Lynchburg College in 2015.
 
Kenneth Embrack

Kenneth Embrack has been a practicing physical therapist for more than 20 years specializing in Orthopedics and Sports medicine. He has been trained in the Maitland-Australian method and has experience with patients of all ages. Kenneth has worked extensively in the overseeing and training the Police and Fire department of the Washington metropolitan area.

Kenneth earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Physical Therapy from Howard University and completed his graduate degree in Sports Management from George Washington University.

 
Caleb Dodd

Caleb Dodd is a physical therapist and clinical director of Pivot Physical Therapy’s Inwood clinic. His clinical areas of interest include orthopedic manual therapy, spine rehabilitation, shoulder, and knee rehabilitation. Caleb is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and a member of the Orthopedic Section of the APTA. He is currently working to achieve his Certification in Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy, and plans to pursue post-professional education in Board Certification in Orthopedics, as well as Dry Needling and Work Rehabilitation. Caleb has previously worked for the Veterans Health Administration helping veterans rehabilitate from a variety of conditions.

 

Caleb received his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from West Virginia University in 2016, and a Bachelors of Science in Exercise Science from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania. Moreover, Caleb has conducted and presented research at the state and national level in the field of sports and orthopedic physical therapy on the effects of manual treatments and their impact on delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS).

 

In his spare time, Caleb likes to ride his motorcycle, golf, work on his cars and motorcycle, and spend time with his family and friends. He also is an avid “foodie”, always looking for new and upcoming restaurants.  

 

Angela French, PTA

Angie French, has been a Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant with Haygood Physical Therapy for 15 years.  Haygood Physical Therapy became part of Pivot Physical Therapy in 2017.  Through the years, Angie has participated in many continuing education courses on myofascial and mobilization techniques addressing problem areas such as the shoulder, neck and back as well as implementing effective core stabilization and functional strengthening exercises.

Angie completed an Associates in Applied Sciences, Physical Therapy Assistant at Norther Virginia Community College.  She is also a Certified Massage Therapist, which allows her to incorporate myofascial applications into treatment.

Outside of work, Angie enjoys hiking, biking, camping, spending time with friends and family, trying new work outs,  and cooking new recipes.  She also enjoys doing house projects, creative carpentry, gardening and creating softscapes/hardscapes. In her downtime, you will find Angie relaxing at the beach or watching movies.

 
Maryellen Halloran

Maryellen Halloran is our clinic director in Pittsboro. Maryellen has completed continuing education courses in several different topic areas, including manual therapy of the pelvis and sacroiliac joint, lower extremity trigger point release, rehabilitation of the shoulder and knee, and kinesiotaping. Maryellen became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist in 2012. Her interests include core strengthening/stabilization, hip and knee rehabilitation, and postural stabilization exercises. Prior to joining Pivot Physical Therapy in October 2017, Maryellen worked as a physical therapist in several outpatient clinics in the Greater Boston area where she used her fluency in Spanish to serve the community.  

Maryellen received a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Miami in 2013. She completed her undergraduate education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she received a BA in Exercise and Sports Science—Athletic Training in 2007. After completing her undergraduate education, Maryellen worked as a head athletic trainer for a high school for 3 years.  

Maryellen and her family have recently moved back to Raleigh, NC, and are enjoying exploring their new hometown. In her free time, Maryellen also enjoys watching sports (especially her Tar Heels), playing with her rescue puppy, and spending time with her husband and newborn daughter Carolina.

 

Angela Satava, PT, DPT

Angela is a Virginia native and started her journey into becoming a physical therapist while studying Mechanical Engineering at Ohio University. At the end of her sophomore year Angela decided she wanted to care for individuals in a more hands on approach and made the switch to exercise physiology.

Angela’s hands on approach was developed while at Ohio University where she worked as a personal trainer, and was a member of, and the assistant coach of the Ohio University Women's Club Crew Team.

Angela graduated from Ohio University with her Bachelors of Science in Exercise Physiology and moved on to Marymount University where she graduated with her Doctorate of Physical Therapy.

While working towards her doctorate, Angela was exposed to a variety of different fields of physical therapy. From geriatrics, to working with Marines, Angela has seen a little bit of it all and has developed skills to assist her clients in returning to their previous level of function and activities they love, whether it is running a marathon or walking their dog.

While not at work, Angela enjoys to spend her time exploring mother nature with her fiancé and their dog or reading a good book.

 

Kelly Masterson, PT, DPT, ATP

Kelly is the Clinic Director at Pivot Physical Therapy in Nottingham, MD.  Kelly graduated with her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Quinnipiac University and began her career on the Surgery and Trauma Unit within the Johns Hopkins Health System.  She has over 6 years of outpatient experience with a broad knowledge of various populations and diagnoses including orthopedics, athletes, pediatrics, complex medical/comorbidities, and neurological conditions.  She is able to provide gait/balance training, vestibular rehabilitation, running assessment, and bracing recommendations.  In addition, she has obtained her Assistive Technology Professional certification and has an extensive knowledge of adaptive equipment including manual and power wheelchairs, custom molded seating systems, and gait trainers/walkers.  She served as an integral part of a Seating Clinic for 6 years and hopes to continue to assist individuals in achieving greater independence with mobility. 

Kelly is an avid runner and cyclist and combines her personal love of health and wellness with physical therapy treatment to serve each individual.  She is a certified personal trainer, CrossFit® trainer, and yoga instructor.  

 
Brian Riggs

Brian Riggs, LPTA, joined the Pivot family at WestChester Commons in July 2017.  As well as being a licensed physical therapist assistant, Brian is certified in personal fitness training through the International Sport Science Academy.  Brian is interested in working with a variety of diagnosis including working with athletes and our aging population.  Before deciding to go to PTA school, Brian, enjoyed being an outpatient PT tech for two years in his hometown of Charlottesville.

Brian received his Bachelors from Radford University in Exercise, Sport, Health and Education in 2013.  He then attended ECPI University in Richmond, VA and earned his license in PTA in 2017. 

When not practicing physical therapy, Brian enjoys exercising, trips to the river, attending live music performances and most anything outdoors.  Motocross, lacrosse and snowboarding were Brian’s favorite sports growing up.  Born in Charlottesville, VA, Brian is a big UVA sports fan.  His goal is to help you become a better you!

 
G. Matthew Yasenosky

G. Matthew Yasenosky joined Pivot Physical Therapy in August of 2017, after moving to Virginia. Matthew’s main interests lie in orthopedics, post-operative care, and movement dysfunction. He has future goals of becoming an orthopedic certified specialist, certified orthopedic manual therapist, and studying post-concussion management.

He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Seton Hill University in May of 2014. Matthew then pursued his Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree at West Virginia University, graduating in May of 2017.  While at WVU, he was awarded the Graduate Teaching Assistant position during his final year of physical therapy school, in which he helped teach with faculty and run open labs for first-year physical therapy students. Following graduation, he helped teach the Advanced Clinical Anatomy course.

Matthew was born and raised in Greensburg, PA. In his free time he enjoys hunting, fly fishing, fly tying, golfing, and working out. He is an avid Pittsburgh sports fan that enjoys watching the Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins. 

 
Ashley Neidorff

Ashley joined the Pivot Physical Therapy team in July 2017 as clinic director of our Woodbridge, VA location. Ashley has experience working with a wide variety of orthopedic diagnoses including pre-operative, post-operative, sport injuries, and chronic pain. She enjoys working with patients of all ages and activity levels, and has a special interest in sports medicine. Ashley strives to emphasize patient centered care by establishing treatment programs that cater to each individual’s lifestyles, abilities, and goals. She focuses on creating an environment rich in patient education, self-management skills, and attention to proper exercise technique.

Ashley graduated from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania with of Bachelor’s of Science in Athletic Training and continued her education at Boston University earning her Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Since graduating, she has completed many continuing education courses. Ashley has been a certified Graston Technique provider since 2014. Recently, she has been pursuing her interest in manual therapy by completing courses with the North American Institute of Orthopaedic Manual Therapy in pursuit of obtaining a Certified Manual Physical Therapist (CMPT) credential.

In her free time, Ashley enjoys spending time with family and friends, outdoor adventures including hiking, camping, and skiing. She is an avid runner and has completed several half and full marathons. 

 
Tate Klidonas

Tate joined the Pivot Physical Therapy Team as a staff physical therapist at our Arlington clinic in August of 2017. He earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Hartford in 2017. Tate's interests include treating a range of orthopedic conditions with a focus on maximizing performance in all facets of life. Through his internships, Tate has gathered clinical experience treating active duty soldiers and designing advanced rehabilitation/return-to-sport programs. 

 

Tate graduated with his Bachelor’s Degree in Health Science from the University of Hartford in 2014. While at Hartford, he amassed multiple accolades as a four-year member and senior captain of the Division I men's lacrosse team. He aspires to advance his career through continuing education opportunities focused on manual therapy techniques, sports medicine, and evidence-based practices.  

 

When not treating patients, Tate enjoys weight training, cycling, reading, hiking, playing music, and winemaking. 

 
Amber Harrison

Amber joined the Pivot family in September 2017, as a staff physical therapist at our Haymarket, VA location. Amber enjoys working with patient's of all ages, with special interest in sports rehabilitation and geriatrics.

Amber graduated from Salisbury University with a Bachelor's of Science in Exercise Science, and from Shenandoah University with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Amber is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, orthopedic section. She plans to pursue certifications in concussion management, strength and conditioning, and dry needling.

Outside of the clinic, Amber enjoys watching football, lifting weights, and running half marathons.

 
Kristopher Bernardo

Kris Bernardo joined Pivot in September of 2017. He works as a certified athletic trainer at St. John's Catholic Prep.

Kris obtained a Bachelor's of Arts in Athletic Training and Pre-Physical Therapy at Baldwin Wallace University. While at Baldwin Wallace he covered a multitude of D3 sports ranging from football and men's lacrosse to indoor track and swimming & diving. He also completed an internship in his junior year at the Cleveland Clinic. Also during his time at school Kris played 3 years of Men's Club Volleyball.

Outside of work, Kris enjoys working out, watching movies, reading books and playing volleyball. He is also a member of the National Athletic Trainer's Association. 

 
Neil Parry

Neil Parry, PT, DPT is a Staff Physical Therapist at the Pivot Physical Therapy in the Crystal City, Virginia location. Neil joined Pivot Physical Therapy in the fall of 2016 upon graduation from Duquesne University of the Holy Spirit in the summer of 2016. While in school, Neil had clinical rotations in a variety of settings including inpatient rehabilitation at Wellspan Rehab Hospital in York, PA as well as outpatient orthopedics at Cincinnati Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in Cincinnati, OH. Neil has treated a variety of patient populations but holds a special interest in the hip and knee. Neil holds a certification in Sportsmetrics, the first and largest ACL prevention program in the country. Neil is a native of upstate New York but has since moved to pursue his career in Physical Therapy in the Washington, DC area. Neil earned a duel Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and Health Sciences from Duquesne University before moving onto his Doctorate of Physical Therapy. He is currently pursuing his Orthopedic Clinical Specialist through a residency at NxtGen Institute of Physical Therapy to further his depth of knowledge in the field of orthopedics.

Kimberly joined the Pivot Physical Therapy team in July 2017 as a clinic director and physical therapist in the Herndon, VA office.  Kim has been providing patient care in outpatient orthopedic and sports therapy clinics for the last 3 years.  She has worked with patients of all ages from children to older adults.  She focuses on functional training with a strong emphasis on manual therapy.

Kim is a Pennsylvania native and grew up in the Pittsburgh area.  Kim graduated from West Virginia University in 2010 with a BS in Exercise Physiology.  She then completed her Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy at Gannon University in 2014.

In her personal time, Kim enjoys spending time with her dog, Arnie.  She is currently working to improve her golf game and loves to dance.  Growing up in southwest PA, Kim loves to cheer on the Pittsburgh Penguins and Pirates and enjoys WVU football.
 
William Crist

Billy joined Pivot in July 2017 as a staff physical therapist in the Centreville location. He is also a certified personal trainer and has interests in orthopedic and sports related injuries.  Future goals include pursuing an OCS (Orthopedic Clinical Specialist), CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist) and vestibular rehabilitation. He is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association.

Billy attended Christopher Newport University where he had the opportunity to play lacrosse and graduate with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. He then went on to earn his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Old Dominion University in 2017. Billy’s personal interests include sports and spending time with friends and family.  In his free time he enjoys weightlifting, reading and cheering on D.C. sports. 

 
Stephen Moser

Stephen Moser earned his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from SUNY Downstate Medical Center in 2014. Prior to obtaining his doctorate degree, Stephen received his Bachelors of Science in Biology from SUNY Binghamton.


Stephen’s treatment philosophy involves a holistic approach with a strong emphasis on patient education and participation. He has taken workshops in the Mckenzie technique for evaluating and treating lower back pain. Stephen has treated a wide variety of musculoskeletal injuries, chronic pain, neurological disorders, balance and vestibular issues. Stephen has been an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) since 2013. 


Stephen also specializes in the post-operative care of various orthopedic injuries and the rehabilitation of various athletic injuries. Stephen strives to provide the same high-quality care to all of his patients, regardless of activity level and athletic prowess 

Stephen is currently focusing on continuing his education and becoming an Orthopedic Certified Specialist. In his free time, Stephen enjoys spending time with his family and friends, running and exercising.

 

Eric Graves, PT, DPT

Eric Graves joined the Pivot Physical Therapy Sterling clinic in June of 2017. His continuing education interests include evaluation and treatment for sports/athletes and orthopedics, strength and conditioning, and functional movement screening.

 

Eric attended Radford University where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Health, and Education with a concentration in Sports Medicine. While at Radford Eric also competed in Division 1 Track and Field and Cross Country. Eric attended Old Dominion University where he received his Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2017. His clinical experiences included Sports Medicine, Inpatient Rehab and Acute Care. He is a current member of the VPTA and Orthopedic section of the APTA.

 

Outside the clinic Eric enjoys running, weightlifting, soccer, cycling, and pick up games of any type. 

 
Youjin Lee

Youjin joined the Pivot Physical Therapy team in November 2016. Youjin possesses a Bachelor degree from Gwangju Health University South Korea, and a Masters and a Doctorate of Science from Dongshin University, South Korea. Upon coming to the United States, she performed a physical therapy internship with St. Augustine University and is well on her way to completing a transitional doctorate from Northeastern University in Boston.

Youjin has worked as an adjunctive professor in Dongshin University and Sunchun Chungam University, South Korea. Youjin has worked in outpatient physical therapy since 2004 and has treated various conditions including stroke, bell’s palsy, complex regional pain syndrome, and Parkinson’s disease. Youjin currently holds the office of International director of Korean Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation(PNF) Association. She is currently certified to perform functional dry needling, Maitland techniques as well as PNF.

Youjin supports her children in their academics, violin and the National Honor Society. Youjin enjoys traveling, art, gardening, bike riding, swimming, playing golf, and spending time with her two Shih Tzu dogs.

 
Kaitlyn Martinatis

Kaitlyn Martinaitis joined the Pivot Physical Therapy team as a physical therapist at our G Street location in September 2017. Kaitlyn graduated from Towson University in 2014 with a bachelors degree in Exercise Science and then graduated from Temple University in 2017 with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. While at Temple, Kaitlyn completed an evidence based project focusing on preventing injuries in adolescent and adult athletes. Kaitlyn has a particular interest in helping athletes return to sport.

In her spare time, Kaitlyn enjoys running, yoga, and stand up paddle boarding. 

 
Jenna Kanungo

Ranjana "Jenna" Kanungo, PT, DPT

Ranjana "Jenna" Kanungo joined Pivot Physical Therapy in 2017 as a physical therapist at the Foxhall location in Washington, D.C. She received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Northeastern University in May, 2017 during which time she completed multiple internships and clinical rotations in the sports medicine, orthopedic, neurologic, and hospital settings. Jenna enjoys working with patients with spine, balance, and gait impairments with emphasis on postural education and improved performance and efficiency during day to day activities. She enjoys incorporating yoga postures and concepts into her treatments and plans on becoming clinically certified in yoga therapy as well as spinal manual therapy.

Additionally, she enjoys working with aging and neurologically compromised populations to improve stability, safety, and independence at home and in the community. During her free time Jenna enjoys traveling, cooking, music, art, exercise, and the outdoors.

Jaclyn is the clinic director of our Haymarket, VA location. Jaclyn enjoys working with a wide variety of patients of all ages. She has a passion for improving the quality of life of each individual patient by promoting a healthy lifestyle and providing a personalized treatment plan that empowers them to take an active role in their rehabilitation process.

Jaclyn graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, and from the University of Delaware with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Since graduating, Jaclyn has completed many continuing education courses and certifications.  Jaclyn is a Certified Myofascial Trigger Point Therapist, Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist, Certified Running Coach, and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.

 
Erin Podracky

Erin Podracky joined the Pivot Physical Therapy team as a physical therapist at our G Street location in Washington, DC in 2017. Erin is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and strives to stay up-to-date on all of the latest research in the field to better assist her patients in achieving their functional goals. She has been involved in numerous research studies herself including one on inspiratory muscle training for low back pain. Erin has a passion for helping others and has taken a very active role in community outreach over the years, including working at a pro bono physical therapy clinic.

 

Erin graduated from the University of Miami in 2012 with a B.S. in Exercise Physiology. She worked as an Exercise Physiologist at a physical therapy clinic in Miami for 2 years and then went on to receive her Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of Miami.  When not in the clinic, Erin enjoys biking, hiking, camping, and traveling.

 
Tiernan Damas

Tiernan Damas earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree with honors from Emory University. She enjoys treating all orthopedic conditions with a special interest in dance medicine from her past career as a professional ballet and modern dancer. Tiernan completed a year long directed study in dance medicine treating the Atlanta Ballet and an orthopedic rotation with the Joffrey Ballet in Chicago, Illinois. She is also an active member of Dance/USA's Task Force on Dancer Health.

 
Nina Gallelli

Nina Gallelli joined Pivot Physical Therapy as a physical therapist in February 2017 at the Rosslyn, VA location.  Nina is an avid runner and previous dancer which drives her interest in treating the athletic and active population. She also has strong interest in treating post-operative and pediatric patients.

Nina grew up in Bucks County, Pennsylvania and attended Penn State University. While there, she received her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and participated in a 46 hour dance marathon to raise funds and awareness for pediatric cancer. She later went on to receive her doctorate in physical therapy from Arcadia University in Glenside, PA. 

 

Yngwie Edeen, PT, DPT

Yngwie Edeen joined Pivot Phyiscal Therapy in 2017 as a physical therapist in Salisbury, MD.  Yngwie recently graduated from New York Medical College in May 2017.  He has clinical experience in orthopedic and neurological rehabilitation.  In January 2017 he earned his LVST BIG certification, focusing on Parkinson’s disease. Yngwie plans to continue to progress his skills and education with training in industrial rehabilitation, neurological rehabilitation, and clinical orthopedics. Before going back to school for physical therapy, Yngwie was a math and science teacher for grades 4-7 before gaining experience in school administration.

 

Yngwie received his Bachelors of Science degree in biology from East Stroudsburg University in 2012.  In 2017, Yngwie earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from New York Medical College.  He looks forward to providing community services including: health screenings, group exercise classes, and educational seminars. 

 

Yngwie recently moved to Salisbury, MD.  He lives with his girlfriend and their dog, Winston. He enjoys playing sports, being active, cooking and music. 

 

Chester Johnson, PT, DPT

CJ joined the Pivot Physical Therapy team in 2017. He has gained experience treating athletes, geriatric patients, and the chronically ill. CJ enjoys working with a wide variety of patients in both the inpatient and outpatient settings with hopes that this experience will help him remain well rounded as a therapist.  Moving forward he hopes to continue his education in order to best serve his patients.

 

CJ graduated from Temple University with his Bachelors in fine arts. After a career in TV/Film he decided to return to school to pursue a more fulfilling career that allowed him to make a positive impact on others. He returned to Temple University where he would receive his doctorate in physical therapy. While working as a student CJ gained experience in outpatient orthopedics and inpatient rehabilitation.

 

In his down time CJ enjoys cooking, camping, working out, and spending time with close friends and family. He is an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan and one day would like to coach a youth football team.

 

Chelsea Lineberger, PT, DPT

Chelsea Lineberger, PT, DPT joined Pivot Physical Therapy in June 2017 as a physical therapist at the Hickory, NC location. She mostly enjoys working with patients in the orthopedic clinical setting. She is currently pursuing her certification in dry needling and the Functional Movement System. Chelsea enjoys getting to know what motivates patients to improve their health and well-being and helping them to feel in control of their recovery.

 

Chelsea graduated from Appalachian State University with a B.S. in Exercise Science in 2014 and completed her Doctor of Physical Therapy at Duke University in 2017. During her time in graduate school, Chelsea had the opportunity to treat a wide variety of acute and chronic orthopedic injuries and had the chance to serve our country’s veterans at the VA Hospital in Salt Lake City, UT.

 

Chelsea is a native of the Hickory area and is looking forward to serving the community that supported her while she was growing up. In her time outside of the clinic, Chelsea enjoys reading, the outdoors, exercise, and exploring with her rescue pup. 

 
Jason Reese

Jason graduated with his Doctor of Physical Therapy at A.T. Still University in Mesa, Arizona in 2009.  He received his undergraduate, Bachelors of Arts, majoring in Spanish from Brigham Young University in 2006.  Jason is certified in Astym, which helps regenerate healthy soft tissue, and helps to remove scar tissue that is contributing to movement restrictions and pain.  He has had therapy for various injuries and knows what it is like to come back from injury, and the drive it takes to return to sport and daily activities. He focuses on educating his patients to help put them in the driver seat of their recovery, and uses a hands on approach to help his patients recover faster. He is fluent in Spanish.  He enjoys learning new techniques and exercises to improve patient outcomes.  He delivers patient centered care and enjoys treating patients like family and friends. He enjoys treating all types of patients, especially young athletes.

 

Jason is married with four kids.  He enjoys spending time with his family, music, the outdoors, working out, biking, serving in his church, and playing the guitar. 

 

Deborah Ann Fanning, ATC

Deborah Fanning joined Pivot Physical Therapy in August of 2017. She works as a certified athletic trainer for the Propel Schools, Imani Christian Academy football, both in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, as well as at Pivot’s physical therapy clinic in the Edgewood office.

Deborah graduated with from Clarion University of Pennsylvania in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies, with a concentration of athletic training, and a minor in Psychology. She also received a bachelor's degree in athletic training from California University of Pennsylvania. While in undergraduate studies, Deborah interned with the Texas Rangers and Cleveland Indians professional baseball organizations. In 2017 she received a Master’s in Sports and Recreation Studies from South Dakota State University, where she worked with their Division I softball team. She is also an Emergency Medical Technician.

Deborah is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, Eastern Athletic Trainers’ Association, and Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers’ Society. She has served in the student delegation of the Eastern Athletic Trainer’s Association as a program chair.

Outside of work, Deborah enjoys exercising, outdoor activities, and cooking. She also enjoys spending time with her family watching sports, and playing with her nieces and nephew.

Kari is the Athletic Trainer at Red Lion Christian Academy in Bear, DE and works in the Mill Creek Pivot Physical Therapy clinic in Wilmington, DE. She is a member of Delaware Athletic Trainer’s Association, as well as the National Athletic Trainer’s Association, and is interested in becoming a corrective exercise specialist.

 

Kari graduated from The University of Delaware in 2016 and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training. While there she worked with the D1 Swimming and Diving, Field Hockey, Baseball, and Football teams. She also did a rotation at a local high school and completed a Physical Therapy and General Medicine rotation.

 

In her free time Kari enjoys going to the gym, being active, listening to live music, going to Phillies and Orioles baseball games, and watching the Redskins.

Madeline Stoll joined the Pivot Physical Therapy Team as a Certified Athletic Trainer. Maddie works at Pivot Physical Therapy in Calvert County and is also the head Athletic Trainer at The Calverton School. She is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, previously going to the conference in Baltimore, MD. In addition, she has attended the Delaware Athletic Trainers’ Association Conference and the Eastern Athletic Trainers’ Association conference in Philadelphia, PA. Maddie looks forward to attending more conferences and attaining more credentials in the future.

 

Maddie recently graduated from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. Her undergraduate experience consisted of a rotation with Hodgson High School, Premier Physical Therapy, UD football, women’s soccer, and track and field/cross country.

 

Outside of Athletic Training, Maddie enjoys painting and the beach. She has previously travelled to multiple European countries and hopes to do so again in the near future.

Courtney joined Pivot Physical Therapy in 2017 as Northern High School’s head athletic trainer. She also works in the Dunkirk clinic. She is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association as well as the Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers’ Society.

Courtney graduated in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training and a minor in nutrition from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). While at IUP Courtney had a rotation at Punxsutawney High School followed by several rotations at IUP where she worked with DII football, women’s basketball, women’s tennis, men’s basketball, baseball, golf, men’s swimming, and men’s and women’s track and cross country. Just recently, Courtney graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with her Master of Science in Sport Science Sport Studies. While earning her Master’s degree Courtney took on the position of Graduate Certified Athletic Training Intern with IUP’s DII football, women’s tennis, and women’s basketball teams.

In her free time Courtney enjoys wakeboarding, lifting, competing in triathlons, and spending time with friends and family.

Michelle joined Pivot Physical Therapy in August of 2017 as the head Athletic Trainer at Calvert High School in Calvert County, and works at Pivot's Chesapeake Beach clinic. She is a member of the National Athletic Trainer's Association, and is a Graston Provider.

 

Michelle received her Bachelor of Science degree in Health Science in 2011 from Johnson State College, Johnson VT. She earned her Master's Degree in Athletic Training from Shenandoah University in Winchester, VA in May of 2017. During her graduate school career, she completed clinical rotations at Randolph-Macon Academy in Front Royal, VA, as well as at Virginia Tech with Women's Soccer and Football, and at the United States Naval Academy with the Women's Lacrosse team.

 

Outside of work, you can find Michelle enjoying the sunshine hiking, biking, camping, sailing, or relaxing in her hammock.

Catherine joined in July 2017. She is the athletic trainer for Long Reach HS in Columbia and works in the Columbia Pivot Physical Therapy office located on Knoll N Drive.

 

Catherine graduated from Shenandoah University in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology degree. She also received her Master of Science in Athletic Training at Shenandoah University in May 2017. Catherine completed Master's clinical rotations including; Shenandoah Men's Soccer and Woman’s Basketball, Millbrook HS,  and Bucknell University Football and Baseball. Catherine is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association.

Taylor Cathcart, ATC

Taylor Cathcart joined the Pivot Physical Therapy team in March of 2017 as the Athletic Trainer at Jefferson High School. Taylor also works in the Pivot Physical Therapy clinic located in Shepherdstown, WV with a variety of patients and athletes. She is BOC certified, licensed in West Virginia, and a member of the NATA.

Taylor graduated from Marshall University in 2016 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Athletic Training. While at Marshall University, Taylor had the opportunity to work with the Marshall Football, Volleyball, and Men’s Soccer teams. She also got to work closely with the athletic trainer at Cabell Midland High School.

In her free time, Taylor likes to go to various sporting events to support her younger brother. She also likes to watch Marshall sporting events whenever she can (GO HERD!) and hang out with her family and friends. 

 
Chris Cole

Chris joined the Pivot sports medicine team in July of 2017. He works as the certified athletic trainer for Hedgesville High School, and at Pivot’s Physical Therapy clinic in Hedgesville, WV.

Chris obtained his Bachelors of Science degree in Athletic Training from California University of Pennsylvania in 2014. He then went on to pursue a Master of Science in Athletic Training from West Virginia Wesleyan College while working as a graduate assistant athletic trainer. Prior to joining Pivot, Chris spent over 2 years working in the collegiate setting. 

Outside of work, Chris enjoys playing golf, kayaking, snowboarding, and spending time with family. 

 

Karina Bertness, ATC

Karina joined the Pivot team in August 2017, serving as the athletic trainer for Martinsburg High School in Martinsburg, WV. She is also working out of the Inwood Pivot Physical Therapy clinic. For the past three years, Karina has been working in Mankato, MN as an athletic trainer for local area high schools, as well as serving as a graduate teaching assistant for the Athletic Training Education Program at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

 

Karina earned her Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from the University of Pittsburgh in 2014. While at Pitt, she had the opportunity to work with South Fayette High School, and Pitt football, women’s basketball, and men’s soccer. She also did volunteer work with the Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers Association, the Special Olympics of Allegheny County, and the Carnegie Science Center.

 

When she is not busy caring for her athletes, Karina is likely to be found spending time with friends and family, backpacking, hammock camping, or reading a good book.

Peter is the head athletic trainer at Saint James School in Hagerstown, MD. He also works in the Hagerstown Pivot Physical Therapy clinic. Peter is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, Maryland Athletic Trainers’ Association and Mid-Atlantic Athletic Trainers’ Association.

 

Peter graduated from Towson University in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training. While at Towson University, Peter worked with Division I football, softball, lacrosse, and track and field sports teams. He also had the opportunity to work at Gilman School in Baltimore, where he worked with middle and high school athletes.

 

In his free time, Peter enjoys spending time with friends and family, going to concerts and playing golf.

Lacie Johnson joined the Pivot Physical Therapy Sports Medicine Team in March of 2017 as the athletic trainer at South Hagerstown High School and works out of the Hagerstown Physical Therapy Clinic.

Lacie graduated from Frostburg State University with her Bachelors of Science in 2011, then went on to receive her Masters of Science from California University of Pennsylvania in 2012. She is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Health Sciences from California University of Pennsylvania. For the past five years, she has been an athletic trainer at the Division 3 collegiate level with NovaCare Rehabilitation, at Eastern University as well as her alma mater, Frostburg State University. She had to the opportunity to work with athletic training students as a preceptor for both universities athletic training programs. Lacie is also certified in the Graston Technique, which is a form of instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization. She also holds her NASM Performance Enhancement Specialist Certification.

In her free time, Lacie enjoys spending time with her family including her dog Bailey, she enjoys staying active, being outdoors, listening to music, and traveling. 

 

Ryan McCann, ATC, LAT

Ryan McCann joined Pivot Physical Therapy in July of 2017 as the Head Athletic Trainer of Allegany High School in Cumberland, MD.  He will be the first full time athletic trainer for Allegany High School.  Ryan is a member of the National Athletic Training Association, BOC certified, and holds a Maryland license.

Ryan graduated with honors from Wheeling Jesuit University in Wheeling, WV in May of 2016 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training.  His clinical experience at Wheeling Jesuit allowed him to work with Men’s Rugby, Men’s Basketball, Men’s Lacrosse, Women’s Basketball, Softball, and Volleyball.  Before working for Pivot, Ryan served as Northern Garrett High School’s Head Athletic Trainer in Accident, MD for the fall sports season of 2016.

In his spare time, Ryan enjoys being outside camping, canoeing, playing soccer, and spending time with family and friends.  His future plans are to apply to Physical Therapy School.

 

Kennedy Logsdon, ATC

Kennedy joined Pivot Physical Therapy in July of 2017 and will be serving Mountain Ridge High School in Frostburg, Maryland as their first ever Athletic Trainer.

She received her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from Frostburg State University in Frostburg, Maryland in May of 2017 where she was a member of the tennis team, Delta Zeta Sorority and Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity.

A native of LaVale, Maryland, Kennedy enjoys staying active by playing in a slow-pitch softball league, and loves exploring and traveling, with her most recent trip being to Costa Rica. When she is not in the clinic or on the field, she also enjoys spending time with her family, friends, bunny- Reese, and pugs- Pudgy and Chubs. 

 

Brady Lyles, LAT, ATC

Brady Lyles LAT, ATC joined Pivot Physical Therapy in July of 2017. He is the Head athletic trainer at The Heights School in Potomac, MD and works at the Rockville clinic as well. He is the process of obtaining a CSCS credential. Brady is interested in studying the biomechanics of the shoulder, along with how the core and sacroiliac joint effect one another. For the past year Brady was the head athletic trainer at a high school in Jacksonville, NC.

 

He attended Clarksburg High School. Following high school, Brady enrolled at Montgomery College where he played baseball until transferring to West Virginia University (WVU). As an athletic training student at WVU he worked closely with the Top 25 ranked football and men’s basketball teams, as well as the baseball team. He has held internships in Physical Therapy clinics and worked as a strength coach to high school, collegiate, and professional athletes. In May 2016, he received a B.S. in athletic training from WVU.

Bryan Lechner, MS, ATC

Bryan joined Pivot Physical Therapy in July of 2017. He is currently an Athletic Trainer at the Pivot clinic in Gaithersburg, MD and serves as the Head Athletic Trainer for Gaithersburg High School. Prior to joining Pivot, he served as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer at Monterey Peninsula College. Bryan has a Technica Gavilan IASTM certification and specializes in the evaluation and rehabilitation of hamstring injuries. Bryan is passionate about forming a relationship with his patients and athletes and assisting them throughout every step during their road to recovery.

 

Bryan received a bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training from Central Methodist University in Missouri and a master’s degree in Kinesiology from San Jose State University in California.

 

Outside of work Bryan enjoys staying active, running, biking, and travelling during his time off. 

 

Brittany Chwastiak, MS, LAT, ATC

Brittany joined Pivot Physical Therapy in July 2017 as a certified athletic trainer working in the Maryland Damascus clinic and Damascus High School.

 

Brittany completed her undergraduate degree in 2013 from Pennsylvania State University majoring in Kinesiology, with a concentration in Movement Science. During her time at Penn State, she was a volunteer for Penn State’s THON dance marathon, interned with various physical therapy clinics, and worked as a physical therapy technician during the summers. Brittany then went on to graduate school receiving a Master’s degree in Athletic Training from Lenoir-Rhyne University in 2017. While completing her Master’s program, Brittany worked with Division II Football and Women’s Soccer, NJCAA Baseball, Volleyball, Men’s and Women’s Basketball, and high school sports teams.

 

In her spare time Brittany enjoys traveling, spending time with family and friends, cooking, outdoor activities, and reading.

Brittany Billand M.Ed, LAT, ATC, is a certified athletic trainer at her alma mater, Littlestown High School. She joined Pivot Physical Therapy in the summer of 2017 out of our Littlestown, PA physical therapy clinic. Brittany is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and the Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers’ Society.

Brittany graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2016, receiving her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. In 2017, she received her Master of Education in Health and Physical Education from IUP. During her time at IUP, Brittany worked clinical rotations with IUP’s DII field hockey, volleyball, women’s basketball and football teams. She also worked clinical rotations at Marion Center High School and Saint Vincent College. In the fall of 2016, Brittany worked as a supplemental certified athletic trainer at Indiana High School in Indiana, PA.

In her free time, Brittany loves to spend time outdoors; snowboarding, kayaking, and playing lacrosse. She also enjoys spending time with her family and friends, and walking her dogs.

BriAnna Wiggins currently works as the certified athletic trainer at Francis Scott Key High School in Union Bridge, MD and at Pivot's Westminster Aquatic Center in Westminster, MD. She joined Pivot in September 2016, shortly after graduation. While employed with Pivot, BriAnna has had the opportunity to work with many different athletes, such as the Silver Spring Thunderbolts.

BriAnna graduated from Frostburg State University in May 2016 with a Bachelor Degree in Athletic Training. During clinical rotations at Frostburg, she worked with football, softball, cheerleading, volleyball, and many other sports. Since graduation, she has been taking classes with hopes of attending graduate school in the near future. BriAnna is a member of the National Athletic Trainer’s Association, Mid-Atlantic Athletic Trainer’s Association, and Maryland Athletic Trainer's Association.

Outside of work, BriAnna enjoys spending time with family and friends, styling hair, and shopping. She is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., where she volunteers and helps to better her community.

 

Mike Monahan, ATC, LAT

Mike Monahan joined Pivot Physical Therapy July 24th 2017. He is an athletic trainer at Winters Mill High School. When Mike is not at the high school he is in the clinic located in Westminster off of Washington road. Mike lived in the Czech Republic for a month teaching them what an athletic trainer is. While in Czech he also spent time observing dynamic neuromuscular stabilization (DNS) as well as visceral mobilizations. This is Mike’s first job as an athletic trainer but he has experience with being an emergency medical responder for the Tough Mudder. Mike has a passion for ending the negative stigma of mental illness and someday hopes to go to graduate school for sports psychology.

Mike went to Slippery Rock University where he studied athletic training and graduated with a degree of Bachelors of Science in December 2016. At Slippery Rock, Mike was a student athletic trainer for not only some of the university teams but also the local high school. Mike spent over 60 hours of general medicine hours log at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Outside of work Mike enjoys working out as well playing computer games with his older brother.

 

Preston Anderson, MS, ATC, LAT

Preston works as a certified athletic trainer for Governor Thomas Johnson High School and Pivot Physical Therapy's Frederick physical therapy clinic. Preston has experience working in many different settings and has worked with professional, collegiate, and high school athletics. In his free time, 

Preston is a 2008 graduate of Lees-McRae College, with a Bachelors of Science degree in Athletic Training. In 2012, he received a Master of Science degree in Athletic Training from California University of Pennsylvania. During his undergraduate studies, he was a member of the varsity cycling team at Lees-McRae College and was a member of multiple national championship teams. Preston also likes to run and hike with his dog or anything that allows him to spend time outside.
 

Emily Williams, DPT, OCS, CMTPT, ATC

Emily Williams is a licensed physical therapist and certified athletic trainer who joined Pivot Physical Therapy in 2015 in Frederick, MD.  She recently became an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist after completing Pivot’s Orthopedic Residency Program last year. In addition to her orthopedic specialty, she is also certified in dry needling.  Emily plans to pursue additional specialization in sports and/or manual therapy in the near future. With Emily’s background in athletic training, she has a passion for sports medicine, injury prevention, and overall performance enhancement.

Emily graduated from The Pennsylvania State University in 2012 where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. She received her Doctor of Physical Therapy from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia in May 2015. While earning her DPT, Emily worked as an athletic trainer for Sentara Healthcare Network and Boo Williams Sportsplex where she provided sports medicine services for local public school sports teams and athletic events in the Hampton Roads area.

In her free time, Emily enjoys working out, participating in any sport, playing with her dog, and enjoying time with friends and family.
 

Kevin Colvin, PT, DPT

Kevin is the clinic director at our Waldorf, MD location.  He has been involved with physical therapy for 17 years, starting as a tech while finishing undergraduate school.  Over the last 12 years as a licensed therapist, Kevin has worked in a variety of settings, including his own practice.  Over the years, other settings included acute care, long term care, and outpatient.  During the last 4 years, he was the lead therapist at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center’s outpatient department, treating the orthopedic and neurological patient, with emphasis on Stroke, Traumatic Brain Injuries, and Vestibular conditions.  He also participated in the hospital’s monthly orientation where presentation on Back Safety and Body Mechanics to the hospital 

Kevin earned his bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology at the University of Maryland, College Park in 2000.  He then received his Doctor in Physical Therapy degree from Marymount University in 2005.  Kevin is also interested in becoming certified in Functional Capacity Evaluations and becoming a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.

When outside the clinic, Kevin is an avid cyclist and frequently participates in triathlons. 
 

Andrew Sossong, PT, DPT

Andrew Sossong is the clinical director and physical therapist at Pivot's Ebensburg, PA office.  Andrew earned his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Saint Francis University in 2011, after earning a Bachelor's Degree in Health Science from the same university.  He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.   Andrew's physical therapy interests include the treatment of sports injuries, low back pain, and shoulder pathologies.  Andrew's recreational interests include hiking, biking, snowboarding, and playing guitar. 

 

Kaitlin Bailey, PT, DPT

Kaitlin joined Pivot Physical Therapy's Wilmington, NC (Ogden) location in July 2017. She is interested in treating patients with orthopedic diagnoses and injury through an individualized approach to help each patient achieve their personal goals and obtain their maximal functional ability. She also enjoys incorporating sports specific training into her treatments to help patients get back to playing the sports they love at their optimal performance level. Kaitlin is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and has interest in pursuing her orthopedic and vestibular specialty certifications in the future.

Kaitlin obtained her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Old Dominion University. During her clinical internships in Physical Therapy school, she had experience working with orthopedic, neurological, vestibular, geriatric, and oncology patients throughout the state of Virginia.  She is a local of Wilmington and a graduate of UNCW where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science.

In her free time, Kaitlin enjoys playing tennis and is a member of the United States Tennis Association. She also enjoys going to the beach, playing soccer, and participating in activities outdoors.

 

Ryan Fitzpatrick, PT, DPT

Ryan recently joined the Pivot Physical Therapy team in August of 2017, as a physical therapist at the Jacksonville, NC clinic. Ryan has experience working as a personal trainer, performing nutritional consults, body composition measurements, and movement screenings.

Ryan earned a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Lawrence University in 2014, and graduated with honors from the State University of New York at Upstate Medical University in 2017 with a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. During his schooling, he had the opportunity to participate in concussion research and grow as a health care professional through excellent clinical rotations. Ryan is a member of the orthopedic section of the American Physical Therapy Association.

Ryan enjoys spending quality time with his fiancé, friends and family (including his dog), competing in CrossFit, playing sports and exercising, attending sporting events, hunting, fishing, hiking, camping and riding ATV. Ryan has a passion for helping others improve their quality of life and overall sense of well-being. 

 

Colin Johnson, PT, DPT

Colin Johnson works at our Smithfield, NC location. He graduated from Augustana College with a Bachelor’s degree in both Biology and Psychology in 2012. He then graduated from Franklin Pierce University, Goodyear AZ campus with a Doctorate of Physical Therapy in March, 2017. At Franklin Pierce, Colin was able to complete clinical rotations across the country, gaining a wide variety of perspectives for rehabilitation of all injuries.

Colin has a passion for vestibular rehabilitation and would like to pursue his Vestibular clinical specialist. While in graduate school, he presented a poster at Combined Sections Meeting, the largest physical therapy conference in the country, about Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV). He also enjoys treating orthopedic injuries, especially anything sports related.

Growing up in the north Chicago suburbs, Colin is a huge Chicago Cubs, Blackhawks, Bulls and Bears fan. He enjoys running, playing softball and basketball, and traveling as much as possible.

 

Kelsey Kessler, PTA

Kelsey is a physical therapist assistant in the Powhatan, VA clinic.  Her grandfather, a retired physical therapist, peaked her interest in the field, as well as the many treatment session’s she had in high school from a sports related injuries.Kelsey's focus is to help patients goals. She says, “seeing a patient make progress is the most gratifying reward I could receive.”

Kelsey received her Associate of Applied Science as a Physical Therapist Assistant from South University. Kelsey enjoys working with all types of patients. Kelsey says, “each patient I work with is a learning experience that will further my ability to become the best clinician I am supposed to be.”

Kelsey enjoys adventuring/seeking new hiking trails throughout Virginia with her dog.  She also enjoys Disney movies and of course going to Disney World.

 

Eric Dykstra, PT, DPT

Eric Dykstra joined the Pivot in July 2017 as a physical therapist in Butler, PA clinic. Eric’s therapeutic background includes sports and orthopedic injury, post-concussive recovery, as well as specialized treatments for vestibular and neurological conditions. Previously, Eric worked for a sports performance/physical therapy clinic in Wexford, PA.

Eric received a Bachelor Degree in Psychology emphasizing Exercise Instruction & Wellness from the University of Pittsburgh in 2011. He completed his clinical residencies through the Pittsburgh V.A. Health System and Lemieux Sports Complex before earning his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Chatham University in 2016

Eric is an avid runner and Ironman triathlete who specializes in the injury prevention and strength training needs of the endurance athlete. Future goals include becoming an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist & Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.

 

Katie Thompson, PT, MPT

Katie joined Pivot Physical Therapy in May 2017 at the Leesburg, VA clinic. Katie has practiced in outpatient orthopedics for over 7 years and has extensive clinical experience treating orthopedic, post-surgical and sports related injuries. Her diverse clinical background allows her to work with a wide variety of patients of all ages and activity levels. Katie utilizes a hands on approach with each of her patients and successfully incorporates joint mobilization, myofascial release and muscle energy techniques to restore normal movement. She is firm believer in the philosophy of treating the whole patient, not just the symptoms! Katie's specialized interests include manual therapy, kinesiotaping and return to sport rehabilitation.

Katie received her BS in Health Studies in 2008 from the University of Oklahoma. She went on to earn her Masters degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, graduating in 2010. While in PT school, she volunteered with both the Tulsa and Oklahoma City ballet companies, pulling from her own background as a ballet dancer. After starting her career in Chicago, IL, she returned to Tulsa, OK where she was born and raised, until recently relocating to Northern Virginia.

In her free time, Katie enjoys spending time with her husband, Trace, and their golden retriever, Maverick. She loves competing in triathlons, travelling and cheering for the Chicago Cubs and the Oklahoma Sooners. Boomer Sooner!

 

Kevin Faust, PT, DPT

Kevin Faust is a physical therapist that joined the Pivot family in June of 2017 at the Chantilly, VA clinic. His interest in outpatient physical therapy include, geriatrics, and post-op rehabilitation. Kevin plans on pursuing certifications in concussion management, vestibular rehabilitation, and dry needling.

Kevin acquired his Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from the University of Maryland in 2013. He went on to graduate with a clinical Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Maryland - Baltimore in 2017.  Kevin has worked with a variety of patients including general post operative rehabilitation patients, high school athletes, and geriatric patients.  He is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association.

Outside of the clinic, Kevin enjoys cooking, woodworking, playing soccer, and golfing.

 

Courtney Twilley, PT, DPT

Courtney Twilley has been a physical therapist for over 10 years specializing in orthopedics and pelvic floor dysfunction.  Courtney is skilled in using manual therapy interventions to treat a wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions for patients of all ages and has a strong commitment to providing the highest level of quality and individualized care.  Courtney received her post-professional training from the Herman and Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute.  Courtney has experience working with a variety of populations including prenatal and postpartum patients, bowel and bladder dysfunction, organ prolapse and pelvic pain syndromes.   Courtney is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and the Women¹s Health and Orthopedic Section of the APTA.   Courtney also enjoys working with students and is an APTA credentialed clinic instructor.  She continues to further her education and training by taking continuing education courses focused on pelvic floor and orthopedic physical therapy.

Courtney attended Bucknell University and graduated in 2004 with a degree in Cell Biology and Biochemistry.  She then attended the University of Delaware and earned her doctorate of physical therapy in 2006.  Outside of work, Courtney enjoys spending time with her family, going to the beach and being outdoors.  Courtney also volunteers and was a past board member of Quota International of Cambridge, whose mission is to help disadvantaged women and children as well as the hearing impaired.
